Meet Katherine Kwei

We are thrilled to bring you one more special interview with a wonderful purse designer. Sari brown from Lux Couture introduced me to Katherine Kwei designs. Sari as well as I are so intrigued by the delicate knotting method that makes Katherine Kwei styles stand out. So while in new York City Vlad as well as I were able to satisfy Katherine Kwei as well as her assistant designer, Tiffany Koo (who will be working on a line for Katherine Kwei), as well as we have not been able to stop raving about her bags since. Do not expect a simple bag from her designs, for her purses implement a knotting method that will certainly make her stand out from the rest. We sat down in her show space to talk about her purse line as well as get to understand the designer behind these wonderful handbags.

PB: tell us about your fashion background?

KK: As a kid I did a great deal of arts as well as crafts. I went to Cornell as well as I had the choice of being an environmental science major or fine arts major. My father told me that I might do fine arts as a hobby, to ensure that type of threw that concept out the door! After institution I landed a task at Louis Vuitton as well as I landed a task in pr with them. That was my begin into the fashion world. I was with Louis Vuitton for four years in Hong Kong. At the time Marc Jacobs had not joined Louis Vuitton so there was a big focus on handbags, it was just bags bags bags. We did a big China exhibition to introduce the business into China in the late 1990’s as well as we tried to inform people on the brand as well as history of Louis Vuitton. That is exactly how my purse like started.

I decided to go back to institution at the London college of Fashion. This is the exact same institution Jimmy Choo went to as well as it is extremely famous for leatherwork. I did three years there as well as ended up with a master’s degree in accessories design. I came to new York City then as well as did an internship with Zac Posen, however realized that I wished to begin my own line.

PB: So you have both experience on a personal level as well as academic background?

KK: I am a bit bit old fashioned; I believe you requirement to have the degree. I desired the technical experience to discover exactly how the purses are constructed.

PB: Do you want to branch out from handbags?

KK: I may go the path of doing accessories for accessories, as in appeals for the bags. I like so many other designers that I feel like I have nothing to offer in terms of clothing!

PB: who do you have in mind when designing your bags?

KK: I have designed many of my bags for my friends. then again, my mom as well as her buddies are always looking for my bags. So it is for a lady who wants something different however practical.

PB: What is your branding image?

KK: The knots are my image. I stay with this rather than logos. I have youth memories of my grandma practicing the ancient Chinese art of knotting. Also, I line the inside of my bags in red suede.

PB: The knotting is so complex! Is it done by hand?

KK: Yes, they have to be hand knotted. I teach anyone working on my bags the knotting method myself. It is rather time consuming! From begin to surface a few of the bags may take between 10-15 hours. I do ask them to do a slight braid on the back too. The Swarovski crystals are hand punched. So whatever is done by hand for the most part.

PB: You have resided in a plethora of wonderful cities. What took you to all of these places?

KK: My father was an worldwide banker so we were transferred about every three years. I have resided in cities such as Athens, London, Dubai, Hong Kong, as well as new York.

PB: With all of the traveling, what is your preferred city in the world?

KK: Hong Kong. I was born there as well as my parents still online there. likewise my production is there, so I spend much of my time there.

PB: What do you indulge in?

KK: deal with CREAM! I utilize Jurlique. It is expensive, however I am addicted to deal with cream.

PB: What is the last movie you saw?

KK: We just saw Gone infant Gone. It was incredible, it was super intense as well as extremely real.

PB: provide us an interested fact!

Well, I just got engaged! So I am truly happy about that!

PB: What on the internet stores bring your bags?

KK: You can go with Katherine Kwei online, or active Endeavors, Lux Couture, as well as 20 Unlimited.

We completed up the interview as well as while Vlad snapped pictures, Katherine, Tiffany, as well as I browsed the show room. We drooled over a yellow leather Kooba jacket as well as chatted about fashion, life, as well as the quick speed of nyc compared to the rest of the world! We had a fantastic time satisfying Kathy as well as be on the look out for more wonderful styles from her in the future!

Céline’s Pre-Fall 2018 Bags are Here—Check Out the Brand’s Last Collection before Hedi Slimane Takes Over

Phoebe Philo’s world at Céline will end not with a bang, but with a whimper—or, really, more of a whisper, as handbags go. which makes perfect sense; while runway clothes might come and go seasonally, handbags usually last over an arc of at least several seasons, which means that when a designer knows that she and her deputies will be departing, it doesn’t make much sense from either a creative or logistical perspective to launch something new and then right away hand the reins to other people. In this case, the person arriving to fill Philo’s shoes is Hedi Slimane, and his view of the Céline woman will almost certainly diverge greatly from the brand we know now. So, no use in doing too many new things now, especially in bags.

That means that our first look at Céline’s Pre-Fall 2018 collection, which has now hit boutiques and the brand’s website, is filled with a lot of familiar favorites from the years of Philo’s enormously successful tenure at the brand, including many colors of Trio Bags, Luggage Totes, Belt Bags, Cabas Totes and more, as well as new iterations of the big Bag line that launched for spring. If you’re looking for one last piece of Philo’s legacy, there are plenty of options to choose from over the next couple months. most of these designs will continue on under Slimane for the next couple seasons at least, but this is the last collection where she was officially at the helm.

The only totally new bag to be found in this collection is the Made In Tote, which comes in three sizes and two materials (leather and textile), both bearing a large version of the Céline logo and origin stamp that’s usually found in tiny gold print on the brand’s leather bags. The totes are simple and unsubtle, and they feel like both a clear statement of what the brand stands for and a perfectly loud logo piece that fits what much of fashion’s elite wants right now. So maybe I was wrong, maybe it is a bang.

Check out all of the new Made In Totes, plus a selection of the season’s other new options below. You can view the full collection via Céline.

Chloe Marcie Bag

I continue to see the Chloe Marcie Bag on both Katie Holmes and Jessica Alba, which prompted another look at the latest hit from Chloe. every time I see a Chloe bag or even their logo, the initial thought that pops into my mind is the weight of the bag. anybody who has owned the once coveted Paddington knows that the weight of the bag was a talking point. Rightfully so, as the leather of the bag was very thick and heavy and the signature padlock sent the weight of the bag over-the-top. So when we are introduced to a new Chloe bag, I have a hard time putting aside past thoughts and looking at it with a clean slate.

But I will try. When Amanda first reviewed the Marcie it was the hobo version, she gave it a positive review. and here comes another positive review, because the larger version, which I keep spotting on the celebs, is also a stunning bag. The lines are clean and sleek, yet rounded and feminine. I love how the wrapped-detail deal with adds a new dimension. and with fall relying on camel and neutral hued colors, this bag is a ideal option. I kind of love it and I never feel like Chloe lets anybody down with the quality of their materials. purchase via net A porter for $1,790.

Meet Rebecca Minkoff

best after we arrived in nyc last week, Vlad and I checked in the hotel, spruced up, and were on our way to meet Rebecca Minkoff. meeting the designer behind a handbag line that has a huge following was a little bit nerve-wrecking, yet Rebecca could not have been much more down to earth. We got to the showroom before Rebecca made it, and perused her spectacular spring/summer handbag line. I insisted that Vlad began to either jot down or make mental notes of the bags I had to have, the bags my family members had to have, and the bags that we would tell everyone they have to have. Touching the leathers, admiring the colors, and learning the designs is an easy task, when a handbag line is as beautiful as Rebecca Minkoff’s. When Rebecca and her beautiful pr gal Jill arrived, we all hit it off. We sat down to speak with Rebecca about how she got where she is today and where she plans on going. and while her handbag line is thriving, Rebecca still sees herself as an ordinary gal. Yet she is so much much more than ordinary, as are her designs. We had the pleasure of interviewing Rebecca Minkoff to let you into incredible designer that is going nowhere but up. Enjoy!

PB: tell us about your start into the fashion world.

RM: I was a dancer throughout high school. My dance teachers told me that I was too tall, too long, and I threw out the symmetry. I couldn’t carry out in any shows because of my height and my long arms, so they put me in the costume department. because it was a performing arts high school, it was a very major costume department and I started learning in depth how to make patterns, construct garments, and drape garments. At 17, I was not interested in college, and my brother knew Craig Taylor (a fashion designer) and called him up to get me an internship. At 18, I moved to nyc to begin this internship and I worked with Craig Taylor for two years. The CEO allowed me to work on my own clothing line when I had totally free time during the day.

PB: What was your big break?

RM: After 9/11 company picked up for me. By fluke I did a t-shirt that said “I love new York” and I cut it up and made it funky and sent it to my friend Jenna Elfman on September 9th just for her to wear. She got it September 13th and she wore it on Jay Leno. He asked about the t-shirt and then it was everywhere. It was my jump start. My boss told me to leave my job and go start my own line because I was so busy creating this shirt.

PB: how did you transition to bags?

RM: Jenna Elfman is a family friend and called me up and asked if I wanted to do a bag for a film she was going to be in. I said sure, I’ll try a bag, and that bag was the morning After Bag. Yet Fed Ex misdelivered and it did not get into the film. I made one for Jenna and one for myself and figured I would add it to the clothing line, it will just be one accessory. I had no objective of getting into bags. but then daily candy wrote about it and it just took off. So I stopped clothing because the demand for this bag was really strong and the clothing wasn’t at a point that I wanted it to be. So I switched to bags, only using the morning After Bag and switching the color, but my showroom said I had to have much more than one bag.

PB: Do you plan to branch out of handbags or get back into clothing?

RM: We are launching clothing for spring ’09. We want to do some belts and we will eventually go into shoes but shoes will be the last stop.

PB: What design aspects are crucial to your collections? What do you emphasize on?

RM: I like my bags to be two toned, or add in a different trim. I like to have a playful take on my bags. My bags may be named after a girl or a story. Each season has a theme, and bags named after that theme. I think a girl can purchase into an experience. In each bag, there is a card with a picture of a young boy with a phone number, so that every girl has a number of a man to call. It works too! You can call and leave messages to Vincent, who has a sexy French accent.

PB: What is your story for your spring line of handbags?

RM: Our story for spring is called stable Love. She is going stable now with a young boy (Steady bag).

PB: who is your fashion icon? Or most significant influence?

RM: Jenna was so instrumental to me, just like a Fairy God Mother. I am always taking a look at Sienna Miller’s style and could see her wearing my bags.

PB: how do you picture the common Rebecca Minkoff wearer?

RM: Some girls look at the bags and see a classic, but I think the girl is a mix of a little bit of a rocker and a girl that wants to take her bag anywhere. My bags are functional, fashionable, and a little bit edgy.

PB: Are celebrities carrying your bag a big focus/help?

RM: It has been a certain focus in the last 6-8 months. The much more people we know and can get our bags too really helps get my name out there. Jessica Simpson, Hayden Panettiere, Lindsay Lohan, Rachel Bilson, Hilary Duff, Jenna Elfman, Debra Messing, and numerous much more celebrities have been seen carrying my bags.

PB: What bag do you use every day?

RM: I use my morning After typically. I have five of my own bags that are my staples. The stable and the rose are going to be my next ones. The stable for everyday and the rose for a great clutch.

PB: What do you tote in your bag all day?

RM: I have my Gucci sunglasses, my video camera (that gets a lot of use!), keys, mirror, my Blackberry to answer emails, my cell phone, three lip glosses, and some gum!

PB: What three things can you not live without?

RM: My boyfriend, shoes – because I only wear my bags I delve into shoes – and my Blackberry.

PB: Shoes, eh?

RM: I just purchased a pair of Sergio Rossi heels while in Italy and they just have some fantastic shoes best now.

PB: What is your ideal Saturday night?

RM: My sweetheart is a musician, so last Saturday he had a show. We viewed him perform. We went and got great crepes downtown. and then we went to dinner with a bunch of friends and just stayed up and talked. just something low essential with my friends.

PB: Please tell us you like Nutella on your crepes?!

YES!

PB: What is your favorite hideaway in NYC?

We love going to Farmer’s Market at Union Square. and we love Freeman’s Alley. It has great decor, is a very homey type of environment. It is very rich food, but just an fantastic place to go. I like the fact that you have to find it and walk down an alley to get to it.

PB: thank you very much Rebecca, we loved chatting with you!

The interview finished and when we left Vlad and I both remarked that we felt like Rebecca was an old friend. This designer who has the world at her fingertips, has kept her feet on the ground. Her designs continue to flourish and her name continues to grow, but Rebecca is very confident in the person she is now and the person she wants to become. thank you again to Rebecca Minkoff and Jill for setting up the interview.

Jimmy Choo for H&M arrives in November

This news is just what I wanted to hear today. H&M has a long and well-publicized history of collaborations with high-end designers, but until now, all of those designers had been many well-known for their clothes. Taking things in a slightly different direction, H&M will feature shoes, accessories, and clothes (CLOTHES?!?!) developed by the folks at Jimmy Choo in select stores this November.

This is the first time that one of the Swedish chain’s designer capsule collections has focused on shoes and accessories (reports are that the clothes will be developed to “compliment” them), and the very idea makes me weep for my weak ankles, one of which I would certainly destroy by trying to purchase and wear any of the all of a sudden budget-friendly Choos that are soon to come our way (old soccer accident, the story is gruesome, you don’t want to know). I’m hoping against hope that they make some flats for those like me, but the teaser image that we have shows two high heels, both of which are quite a bit much more elaborate than I would have expected for a collection like this. and is that the corner of a very shiny grasp that I see peeking out of the frame there? because if it is, God help me, I will be the first one in line if any of the Atlanta-area H&Ms carry this line. No word on which stores will have it yet (when we find out, we’ll let you know!), but my guess is only the largest and many flagship-y of the locations will see these beauties. November 14, hurry up and get here.

(Re)Introducing the Loewe Amazona Bag

Every major luxury fashion house has a handbag line or specific silhouette that is a brand signifier, and for Loewe, it’s arguably the Amazona. though the Puzzle bag has become synonymous with the Loewe brand and creative director Johnathon Anderson in recent years, the Amazona is a true brand signature, with a history dating back to the 70s.

Originally launched in 1975, the iconic Amazona is reimagined for the fall 2021 season, just in time to celebrate the brand’s 175th anniversary. now available in new materials and dimensions with a renewed focus on advanced craftsmanship, news of the Amazona’s revival broke when Loewe cancelled its fall runway show. Today, we’re taking a detailed look at the all-new Amazona.

Construction and Materials

The Amazona was originally designed in 1975, named after female warriors of Greek Mythology, and today it is reimagined with the dimensions of modern electronics in mind. The revival features a structured but soft shape with clean lines, designed to be both fashionable and functional with a padlock, protective metal feet, interior pockets, and a detachable shoulder strap. It’s incredibly lightweight, making it the perfect everyday carry.

Arriving in bright, bold hues for fall, the Amazona is available in both smooth Nappa calfskin as well as Loewe’s signature Anagram jacquard. since its inception, Loewe has been known for its attention to detail, and its core values and storied craftsmanship are reflected in the Amazona.

Sizing and Dimensions

There are two sizes of the new Amazona, the 19 Square and the 28. While both sizes feature a detachable strap and one main compartment with plenty of interior space, the 28 is the way to go if you’re constantly on the move with a lot of stuff to carry. We took a look at the 19 Square in smooth lagoon blue calfskin as well as navy/black jacquard, which has overall dimensions of 8.25″ W x 7″ H x 4″ D. as for the Amazona 28, it has overall dimensions of 11.5″ W x 7″ H x 4″ D. It’s shown here in avocado green jacquard.

Kate Moss for Longchamp Zebra pony Polonchon Gloste carry

Kate Moss, purse designer? That’s what Longchamp seems to think. The longtime deal with of the French brand has just recently debuted a mini-collection of her own under their label, as well as I believe her purses completely demonstrate an important fashion principle: not everybody that has excellent personal style is cut out to be a designer.

Of course, it’s doubtful exactly how much involvement Moss truly had in bags like the Kate Moss for Longchamp Zebra pony Polonchon Gloste Tote, however either way, they’re not all that impressive. It’s not that they’re bad, however they’re almost as well lacking character to even be notable, was there not a famous name attached. Somehow, even this zebra print is looking a bit dull.

I was hoping that Moss would bring some fresh zip to the somewhat staid, traditional line, however other than this bit leopard number, most of the bags are staid leather duffles as well as hobos. They look well-executed as well as a bit luxurious, however they aren’t anything that Longchamp (or any type of bag line) couldn’t have produced without the supermodel’s help.

Although, if they had done it on their own as well as just put her in the ads, I most likely wouldn’t be speaking about the bags at all. I see what you did there, Longchamp. buy with Luisa via Roma for $1583.

One of the most outrageous Collections of Hermès and Chanel We’ve ever Seen

ever considering that we brought back the @PurseForum account on Instagram, we’ve been surprised at how fast it’s grown! Not to mention, we can’t get over how much you people share with us! Each new day brings about a fresh new crop of stunning bags for us to see. It’s so much fun seeing all of your collections, and not only that, but also exploring your pages and seeing all of your special points of view helps me get to know you all a little bit better! No two collections are the same, and it’s really amazing taking it one step additionally and getting insight into the thought process behind what helps each of you curate your closets. For this month’s #BagsOfTPF feature, I’m thrilled to get to know Taiana of @mrs.tf.style. Taiana captured my bag-loving heart with her substantial collection of Chanel and Hermès, and I couldn’t wait to find out how she set her sights on each bag.

PurseBlog: Why do you love handbags?
Taiana: I think a handbag is the most feminine and a lot of sophisticated accessory we could possibly have. I’ve always had a love affair for designer handbags, even considering that those young days when I could only dream about them. In my opinion, bags are always the first thing to be noticed, regardless of what you’re wearing. A bag tells a lot about the character.

PB: What was your first designer bag, and how old were you when you got it? Why did you want that bag?
T: My first designer bag was a Gucci hobo, which I still have. I’d always dreamed about a Gucci bag and could never afford one until I was 27 years old. In between paying for college tuition (international student tuition) and all the bills I had for living in the USA by myself, I still worked very hard and saved up for my very first Gucci bag. only I know how much I worked to have my dream come true. I was sooooo ecstatic when I finally purchased that bag! My Gucci baby!

PB: Which bag is your favorite and why?
T: I have two current favorite bags:
1. Birkin 35 in Rouge Pivoine with gold hardware. I love red! a lot of of my bags are red, but there’s nothing like an Hermès red. That bag is absolutely stunning! I can’t describe how stunning she is. I’m just obsessed with my Birkin!
2. Birkin 30 in Bleu Colvert with gold hardware. It was my very first bag from FSH [Editor’s note: FSH is the Hermès flagship in Paris], and the excitement of getting a bag there, straight from the mothership, makes it even a lot more special. plus the color is absolutely amazing! It’s a chameleon color and it can be blue from some angles or green, depending on the lighting.

PB: What is the oldest bag you have in your closet? would you ever part with it and if not, why?
T: My oldest bag is still my very first Gucci bag. I can’t get rid of it. even though I never wear it. but all the tears and hard work I had to put in behind the scenes to conquer that bag make me really pleased to look at it in my closet and see what I have achieved.

PB: What is the next bag you plan to get and why do you want it?
T: I’m planning to get another Birkin 35 in gold. I just love the size (I know a lot of people don’t like 35s) but I’m obsessed with big bags. I’ve always been. French culture fascinates me in every single aspect. French ladies like big bags and I find it very elegant. Très chic! I want the gold color because it’s the most classic Hermès color and I feel like I need one to complete my Hermès collection.

PB: Do you usually purchase bags that you’ve wanted for a while, or are you a lot more of an impulse shopper? Do you see it, love it and get it immediately?
T: I used to be an very impulsive Chanel shopper. I would get Chanel bags every other month. I got to a point where I had about 40 Chanel bags in my closet and would never wear them. After much consideration (I was too attached to my bags), I created a closet account on Instagram and began to part with some of the bags I don’t use as often. I was able to downsize my collection to 25 Chanel bags. I still don’t wear them all, and some bags still hurt [to part with], but I’m getting there! My goal is to keep only the bags I use. My spouse is trying to convince me that I don’t need any a lot more bags, which is true but it’s always a substantial excitement for me to get something new. Now, I’m only getting bags I’ve been planning to get for a while, especially Hermès, where you need a whole plan to get them, if you know what I mean. My a lot of recent purchase was a Chanel tiny rectangle in Gold patent chevron with gold hardware. I have something with metallics and iridescent colors. That was an impulsive step there, but it made someone really delighted ? I really don’t need anything, but I can’t resist the excitement of getting a new purse!
